Have you ever stumbled across craft in a weird place- where others would probably over look it, but it stops you in your tracks?
This happened at Alcatraz in San Francisco on our USA trip recently. A jail.
We were wandering around the cells...
...when i spotted something suspicious out of the corner of my eye.
Gasp! It is pink crochet in a cell!
Apparently it was not out of the ordinary to pass the time crocheting.
I don't expect the pink gave the hardened criminal inmate much kudos.

In June this year, in a different location entirely, I stumbled across this piece of crochet graffiti or yarn bombing on the wharf at Devonport, Auckland, NZ
(see here).
(see here).
Recently a friend sent me this article that she found (from here). It is about knitting graffiti, not crochet graffiti, but the location is identical and it is yarn bombing all the same.
Interesting.
Let me know if you come across some anywhere else.
Have a good weekend.

Tee hee - in Alcatraz of all places!?! Now that really makes me giggle :o)
ReplyDeleteI am lucky enough to live in a town that has it's own yarn bomber, it is great, we have all kinds of random knitting all across town- love it.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby went to the Alcatraz tour a couple of years ago and those were the exact same photos he came home with. He was intrigued about the crocheting also!
