I had a few blank walls that needed something.
Not wanting to spend much to brighten them up, I did this:
For something special for my 5 year old no. 3 son's bedroom wall
I found this tea towel online, bought it and
stretched it on a hand made wooden frame,
which a kind person made to size for me.

It looks great and kids (and adults) of all ages love it.
For the kid's hall way we ran a string of wire from the curtain section at Ikea
and used little white wooden pegs from Kikki-K to showcase their art work,
in what has become a changing exhibition on our 'art gallery' wall.

They love it.
And, then for a corner of the lounge I bought this gorgeous
'The Turning Point' print by Angie Vandenbogaard,
'The Turning Point' print by Angie Vandenbogaard,
had a mat board cut and put it in an Ikea frame I had sitting in the garage.
in another Ikea frame I had lurking- I did this one a while ago.
And, while I'm at it I'll show you this one:
I've always loved the red Marimekko poppy print.
A good few years ago (like 7) I really wanted to stretch some of the fabric over a canvas for the wall. When I found the fabric I couldn't afford it.
So, I bought some of the same fabric, faded and in a different colour,
off Trade Me (like ebay).
I transferred the pattern onto a blank canvas and painted it with test pot paint.
I look at it every day on my lounge wall and it still makes me smile.

All cheap and cheerful 'art' to brighten up my walls.
Great ideas for artwork.....love the origami bear tea towel and of course I love the Ikea bird print too. A little thinking outside the square and you've got some very effective artworks.
ReplyDeleteYou just might need some paper on hand for visitors to have a go at making that bear!!

Oh I would swear that was the Marimekko original! Looks fabulous. Isn't it great to get a few new things up on the walls. I like the Ikea curtain rail idea for kids' art. We have a piece of string and clothespegs that are doing the same job but a lot less neatly!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for including my artwork in your blog post, I am thrilled that you are enjoying the art :)
ReplyDeleteThese look really, REALLY cool. You did a great job on the poppy painting, well done! Love the 'art gallery' wall, too - will have to remember that idea for our hallway as the kids start producing more and more artwork. We went to IKEA back in July for a browse around but with the two little ones in tow (one that was running around playing 'house' in all the showrooms!) I didn't get to look at much fabric - I see you can order it online though, so that's good :o)
ReplyDeleteThe walls look great!
ReplyDeleteLots of really great ideas. Not sure which I think I like best: the bird fabric is lovely, as are the poppies, but I also like you line for posting projects on. Much better that just slapping them on the fridge like I used to.
ReplyDeleteOh that teatowel is so cute!!! My eldest is an origami addict at the moment, I must have a look at the link.
ReplyDeleteI covered a canvas recently with some fabric that had lots of words about family, home etc.... unfortunately a misplaced luck (with the "L" around the side of the canvas) has received lots of comments and laughter with visitors.
I love your artwork, and in particular the tea towel idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat wall art. I especially love the bear origami teatowel..fantastic. I have the coasters in that same red poppy Marrimekko print and use them a lot as they're my favourites.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love the tea towel idea, there are great ones around and it always seems a shame to just use them in the kitchen.
I've just realized that it was your foxy that was one of the things that made me think machine embroidery looked fun.
